R.D.O. Masottina, expression of the deep and authentic origin of Ogliano

In every Riva of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG, there is a fragment of landscape that becomes wine. But among the 43 Rive officially recognized by the denomination, one holds a geological and environmental story as rare as it is fascinating: Ogliano.

This is where Masottina’s expression of terroir truly comes to life. And this is where we begin to explore the profound value of Ogliano.

A terroir shaped by the legacy of the Piave Glacier

The Rive di Ogliano are the only ones of glacial origin within the Conegliano Valdobbiadene area. Its morphology is the result of the Piave Glacier, which, as it receded, left behind an incomparable landscape: the Fadalto Valley and the morainic amphitheater of Ogliano and Vittorio Veneto, clearly visible from our winemaking cellar.

Piave Glacier: the geological origin of Ogliano

This geological past has shaped gentle yet complex hills, composed of a rich, stratified morainic soil: clays (including the rare Miocene-era blue clays), silt, sand and rocks form a mosaic of elements that give our wines their distinctive depth and complexity.

A privileged microclimate

Beyond the soil, it is the climate that sets Ogliano apart from every other Riva. The consistent presence of wind — thanks to the Fadalto corridor and the absence of natural barriers — ensures constant natural ventilation. This airflow naturally dries the grapes, encouraging concentration and perfect grape health, while reducing the need for human intervention in the vineyard.

A privileged microclimate that enhances the aromatic profile and structure of Masottina’s wines, making each vintage a faithful yet original interpretation of the Ogliano terroir.

Two slopes, two souls: where R.D.O. Levante and Ponente are born

The Ogliano vineyards enjoy a privileged east and west exposure, a direct reflection of the natural conformation of the land.

It is precisely from these two slopes that our R.D.O. Levante and R.D.O. Ponente are born — two Masottina labels that tell the story of two complementary expressions of the same terroir:

  • The eastern slope, more exposed to the wind, gives us a wine distinguished by remarkable aromatic intensity, with fresh, vibrant fruit aromas: R.D.O. Levante.
  • The western slope, more sheltered and compact, offers greater structure and depth, with a richer, spicier and more savory profile: R.D.O. Ponente.

A dual character that reflects the multifaceted soul of Ogliano and Masottina’s commitment to portraying it with precision, respect and vision.
