In the world of wine, few names evoke elegance, freshness and conviviality like Prosecco. Yet, few realize that behind every glass lies a complex quality system structured in multiple tiers.
Understanding it means choosing with awareness and fully appreciating the uniqueness of each Masottina Prosecco.

Prosecco DOC: the protected identity of a shared heritage

The first tier of the pyramid is represented by Prosecco DOC, established in 2009 to promote a vast winegrowing area that includes over 500 municipalities across Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Masottina interprets it through Costabella, its organic Prosecco: a wine that combines sustainability and elegance, where respect for nature translates into freshness, authenticity and drinkability.

Within the denomination, Prosecco DOC Treviso stands out thanks to the additional geographic mention “Treviso,” which ensures a production chain entirely located within the province of Treviso. Cultivation, harvesting, vinification and bottling all take place here, providing greater control and a strong territorial identity.

Masottina places particular emphasis on Prosecco DOC Treviso within its Terroir Collection, to best express the features of a land to which we are deeply connected and where our roots lie.

Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG: the elegance of the hills

Climbing further up the pyramid, we reach the historical and cultural heart of Prosecco: Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG. Recognized as a DOCG since 2009, its roots stretch back to the founding of the consortium in 1962. In 1969, the Italian Ministry of Agriculture officially recognized the Conegliano and Valdobbiadene areas as a DOC production zone, later upgraded to DOCG in 2009.

This is the quintessential hilly territory, where steep slopes shape human labor and the microclimate yields wines of greater complexity and finesse.
The word “Superiore” is not a stylistic flourish, it’s the evidence of a superior quality linked to this land and to a winemaking process that originates in the hills, respecting both time and soil.

Le Rive: the essence of the land in a name

At the top of the pyramid are the Rive — true “crus” of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene denomination. Here, production becomes an artisanal craft: each Riva represents a municipality or hamlet with unique pedoclimatic characteristics. The grapes are strictly hand-harvested, yields are lower (no more than 13 tons per hectare), and the vintage is indicated on the label to emphasize the one-of-a-kind nature of each harvest.
